We were happy to again host our Financial Literacy Night, an evening of finance, fun, and snacks in our New York City office. Our aim is always to be easygoing but empowering! We had a collection of young people who are important in our clients’ lives: family, neighbors, and friends.
We believe personal finance should be a part of the curriculum in all high schools and colleges, but it is often overlooked. This event is meant to be a fun, interactive, no-fear session to learn and ask questions about real life issues. Welcoming, and not intimidating.
We will also be hosting a Financial Literacy Night in our Berkshires office this summer, so stay tuned.
We went over some of the basics of financial planning for young people, and answered some great questions. These events give Matt and I hope for the future!
Some of the questions included:
- Is it better to pay down my student loans or my credit card?
- How to select the investments in my new 401k plan?
- Should I be saving for retirement or for an apartment?
- How to prioritize spending and how to track it?
- Can I skip insurance to save money?
- Does my credit score matter and how do I increase it?
- Why does my paycheck have so many deductions?
